During Spring 2016, Geaux Vote worked with Louisiana representatives to HB 940 through legislative session. HB 940 proposed that Louisiana student IDs must possess the required criteria to be used as voter identification. In June, Governor John Bel Edwards signed the bill, and LSU began implementing the policy in Fall 2016.
EDUCATE
In the Fall, Geaux Vote hosts regular voting registration drives. In 2016, Geaux Vote registered 500 voters. In addition, team members educate students on the political process and how to be an informed voter. Leading up to the 2016 election, Geaux Vote planned a Pledge to Vote event to engage LSU students with the upcoming election.
Geaux Vote is currently working on a media literacy campaign to educate the Baton Rouge community on detecting fake news. The team is planning a panel bringing in media experts from around the nation, community teach-ins, and a social media campaign. Take a look at the Fake News tab to learn more.
